In fact, this word has so many layers that are intended to challenge our hearts and the way we live our lives. To become gentle as Christ is gentle. This Sunday we'll continue our series on the Fruit of the Spirit by exploring kindness. Every encounter is an opportunity to reflect the character of Christ. Through Jesus' parable of the Good Samaritan, we'll discover that kindness is blessing through behavior. We'll see that kindness characterizes God, costs those who practice it, and catalyzes transformation in the lives of others. We are constantly bombarded by advertisements trying to convince us we would be happier if we had their product in our lives. Where the world tries to sell us happiness, the bible teaches us joy. Over the years, religion has been critiqued by many who believe it is a poison to our world. Surprisingly, as we begin looking at Matthew 23, Jesus agrees with those same critics. Where God originally desired to have a relationship with us, people created religion and it became something else altogether. In Matthew 22:41–46, Jesus asks a question so profound that it leaves the religious leaders speechless. They had studied the Scriptures, pursued righteousness, and searched for truth—yet they still hadn’t found what they were looking for. This Sunday, we’ll explore how Jesus is not only the answer to their deepest questions, but ours as well. Join us as we discover why the human heart will never rest until it finds its true King.

If someone asked you to summarize your discipleship in one command, what would you say? In Matthew 22:34–40, Jesus gives a clear and compelling answer: love God with your whole self, and love your neighbor as yourself. This simple answer confounded the scripture experts of that day. If you know anyone who has been a landlord, you know they hit or miss on tenants. In this week's text, Jesus is letting the current tenants know the landlord is kicking them out and bringing in new ones. These tenants of the kingdom will do four things the current ones are not: accept Jesus' authority, do the Father's will, keep Christ as their cornerstone, and produce kingdom fruit.
