Have you ever been asked "who do you want to be when you grow up?" Oftentimes when kids are asked this question they reply with things people do rather than traits regarding a person's character; who they are. The command to honor your father and your mother is the first command that deals with our relationships with one another. God thinks of the relationships in the home as foundational to all other relationships. But we all know that this is tough. Parents let us down. Kids disobey. And because of that, we can resent God when those most important relationships go poorly.
